Our Quilt Poster

Dear Quilter,

This site presents the cotton fabric, based on antique Dutch manuscripts, that we have designed and had printed in the Netherlands.

Most of these documents were originally brought to Holland during the 17th century by the merchants of the Dutch East India Company trading on India's Coromandel coast. The designs were widely copied in the Netherlands and France in the 18th century.

The original handpainted designs from India were initially used for interior decoration as well as in our national costumes. During the 18th century, when printing mills began commercially producing these flowered patterns, the cotton fabric was mainly used for clothing but sometimes, even then, for patchwork.
[see 'Quilts, a Dutch tradition' by An Moonen]

Today our company [re]produces a number of those flowered patterns most suitable for patchwork in a range of different colors. Each year we develop new designs to match our existing collection. Together they make up a rather exclusive and unusual collection.

The quality of our cotton is excellent and is especially attractive for quilters because of the 150 cm/60 inch width. It is finished with a slight glaze just like in the old days! We have chosen to print with pigment to prevent fading. In fact, due to our method of finising, it is not even necessary to pre-wash our products.
